Artwork for CRISPR-Cas: building bridges between science and society
Are crops obtained using CRISPR-Cas safe to eat? And are new genomic techniques really needed to achieve food security, or will they mostly benefit large companies? These are just a few examples of questions that often come up in the complex discussion surrounding CRISPR-Cas. This summer, the European Commission delivered a draft proposal which advises more flexibility in regulations surrounding new genomic techniques. Based on this proposal, crops obtained using these techniques may become more available to the European market. That makes questions like these all the more relevant now. So we asked you: what have you always wanted to know about CRISPR-Cas? And you delivered! Many questions were asked on the LinkedIn page of Wageningen Plant Research, and this podcast aims to answer as many as possible. Whether you’re a scientist, a student or a concerned citizen, this podcast is meant for anyone interested in the subject. Six researchers from Wageningen University & Research discuss the subject of CRISPR-Cas with one central question in mind: how do we build a bridge between science and society? This conversation is available in English and Dutch. For more info, visit our CRISPR-Cas dossier: wur.eu/crispr-cas.
